Tad’s Mood Today
It’s a statue to commemorate the police response to peaceful protesters during the Civil Rights Movement.
I grew up with video from Birmingham, Alabama as some of my first memories of politics and racism. Bull Conner and his men were my version of the jackbooted thugs who took over Germany, Italy, and Japan during the 20s and 30s. You can’t memorialize history without remembering the ugly and inhumane as well as the heroic.
